On the Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, we have the honor to tell the story of a defender from the village of Vodyakhivka, Zmiivska community, Dmytro Chagovets.

Today, December 6, in Kharkiv, on the occasion of the Armed Forces Day of Ukraine, 32-year-old Dmytro Chagovets was solemnly awarded the Order "For Courage" of the 3rd degree, issued by Presidential Decree. This is his first major state award - for heroism in battle in March 2022.

Then, in Krasnohorivka in the Donetsk region, there was a breakthrough of Russian tanks. Fourteen units of armored vehicles rushed forward. Dmytro, together with his comrades, managed to stop them. This battle became one of the key episodes of the defense, saving dozens of our people and holding back the enemy in a direction where every meter cost blood.

β–ͺ️ Dmytro has lived in the village of Vodyakhivka in Zmiiv Oblast since he was 16. He graduated from the Zmiiv Energy Lyceum. After completing his military service, he signed a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Since then, he has been in continuous service for 10 years. All this time, he has been in the Donetsk region. ATO, Joint Forces Operation, full-scale war.

πŸ™πŸ» Dmytro has a mother and a beloved wife - the two most important pillars that help him hold on. His younger brother also went to war in 2022. During his service, the man was captured. A year of expectations, sleepless nights, faith and fear. Only in September 2025 did Dmytro's brother manage to be returned during the exchange.

On July 28, 2025, near Toretsk, Dmytro received a shrapnel wound. Together with his comrade, they were working from an ambush when they were hit. He will remember that battle forever: his comrade died, and Dmytro survived. Today he is undergoing rehabilitation and is temporarily on leave. [Media-Zmiiv] talked to the soldier - he is holding on. Calmly, with dignity, in a military way. He says that his family gives him strength and, although rare, such necessary returns home.

When asked what being a soldier means to him, Dmytro answered simply and honestly: "Pride is defending your country."

He plans to continue to connect his life with the army, develop in military affairs and pass on his experience to younger people. Although he himself is young, he has already become a mentor to many. During his years of service, Dmytro has gone through various directions: he was an artilleryman, a sapper, and went into reconnaissance. Now he is an infantryman of the 53rd Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade, and it is here that he feels that he is where he should be.
