He did not retreat in the fire of battle: the story of Serhiy Chumak β the Hero and Defender who lived in Zmiiv region πΊπ¦π
On October 13, 2024, the life of soldier Serhiy Chumak, a fighter with the call sign "Echo", was cut short in Kursk. He was 46 years old.
As part of the rifle squad, he died during a close-quarters battle in the Olhivka area of ββthe Korenevsky district of the Kursk region. On the position, Serhiy showed unwavering steadfastness, true courage and bravery, holding his defense to the last under enemy fire.
Serhiy was born and raised in the village of Birky, Novovodolazka community. He is remembered as smiling, friendly, and open to everyone. For over twenty years, he lived in the Zmiivska community, in the village of Dzhgun. He worked as a security guard. He loved cars, had an easygoing nature, and the ability to support anyone. For his family and friends, he was the same ray of sunshine who always appeared exactly when he was needed.
Sister Svitlana shares in the conversation: "My brother was very cheerful. He always helped everyone, never refused anyone help, always went out of his way to meet them."
In August 2024, Serhiy was mobilized. Two months later, he gave his life for Ukraine. He was survived by his mother, sister, and daughter.
πΊπ¦ This year, the hero's family was awarded a high state award - the Order "For Courage" of the 3rd degree (posthumously) in accordance with the Presidential Decree of March 21, 2025. Serhiy Chumak was also awarded the medal "To the Indomitable Heroes of the Russian-Ukrainian War" from the All-Ukrainian Association "Krayina" (posthumously).
The name of the Fighter is immortalized on the Walk of Fame in the village of Veleten, Zmiivska community.
