After school, Maksym received his education at the Kharkiv Mechanical Engineering College. Friends and relatives remember him as an extremely well-read, erudite and open interlocutor.

Maxim had a dream to connect his life with military service since childhood. In early 2022, Maxim successfully completed the courses and received a "Sapper-Miner" certificate.

From the first days of the full-scale invasion, he stood up for the defense of his native Kharkiv region. Maksym proved himself as a true hero during the battles for the city of Izyum: after coming under fire, he personally pulled his comrades out of a burning, downed helicopter, thereby saving their lives.

In the spring of 2022, Maksym's unit was transferred to the Luhansk direction. Private Maksym Tkachenko served as a grenade launcher in the airborne assault detachment of military unit A4165.

For almost 10 days, his unit heroically held the defense in the area of the settlement of Rubizhne. On May 5, 2022, faithful to his military oath, Maksym died while performing a combat mission.

For almost four years, the defender was considered missing. Relatives and those close to the latter hoped for a miracle, but the results of the DNA examination confirmed the worst. Maksym Tkachenko returns to his hometown forever.
